Canadian Smoke and Light Scattering

Another hazy day with smoke from the Canadian wild fires. I’ve noticed this before, but shadows on a day like this are subtly interesting. To me they seem to have a hint of blue in them (see below) and for that matter the lite areas seem more red.

Is this an optical illusion or the result of scattering some how? Or both? I wonder if there is a general ‘redness’ in the atmosphere from the higher frequency scattering of light. For example the reason sunsets are red; because the sunlight has had to pass through more atmosphere and the blue higher frequencies have been scatter away leaving red. The shadows then look more blue than normal because our brains are normalizing colour shades.

Anyway, below are a couple of examples of what I’m talking about. It’s subtle but clear to me while I type this outside.
